Scott Vernon, Founder
The challenges we face in the world today,
rising costs, food insecurity, disconnection are symptoms of something deeper:
we’ve become too disconnected from the land that sustains us.
At the Sustainable Homestead Institute, we’re building something different. A place where everyday people come together to learn how to grow food, raise animals, live with intention, and reconnect with the natural world, all while building a better future for their families and communities.
After 15 years of living and working with the rhythms of nature, Scott Vernon founded the Sustainable Homestead Institute to share what he learned the hard way:
You don’t need a lot of money, land, or experience to live sustainably, you just need the right guidance and a strong community.
Our campus sits on 250+ peaceful acres in southwest Virginia, just a short drive from the Blue Ridge Parkway. People from all walks of life, urban, rural, young, old come here to slow down, get their hands in the soil, and walk away with real skills they can take home and use right away.
Whether you're planting your first seed or building a full-scale homestead, this is a place where you can learn by doing, surrounded by people who want the same thing you do:
A life that’s rooted, resilient, and real.
